Your Wedding Ceremony at Christ Church Cathedral, Newcastle

We are delighted that you are considering getting married at Christ Church Cathedral. The Cathedral will provide a beautiful setting for this very important occasion in your life.

The promises and commitment you make will be binding upon your life, and in coming to the church for marriage, you are asking God to be part of this decision.

If you have never been to this magnificent Cathedral book a time to come in, have a look around and chat to staff.

Your Wedding package at the Cathedral includes:

  • Preparation and use of the Cathedral
  • The Priest/Clergy for the ceremony
  • Three planning meetings and rehearsal with clergy
  • Organist
  • Flowers – Flowers remain at the Church for the week’s services….. we have our wedding couples to thankfor always keeping the Church looking beautiful!
  • Preparation of official paperwork and documents
  • A consult with our Director of Music – no recorded music is allowed in the Cathedral, additionalmusic services are offered please see below.
  • Use of grounds for photos after ceremony (1 hour)
  • Ringing of the bells
  • 50 glossy Orders of Service (additional orders of service can be purchased at $2.50ea)

The total Wedding Package cost is $2350.00.

How to book

Contact the Cathedral office on 0249 292052 or e: cathedral@newcastlecathedral.org.au A non-refundable deposit of $400 is required to book and secure your chosen date.
Whilst the deposit is non-refundable it is transferrable should you need to change the date. The balance ofyour package will be invoiced closer to the date and must be paid prior to your wedding.
Once you have booked
You will be invited to attend 3 marriage preparation meetings and a rehearsal. The first meeting will be several months prior to your wedding ceremony where official paperwork will be completed, (Notice of Intended Marriage (Form 13). The earliest that you can lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage (Form 13) is 18 months prior to the wedding date and no less than 1 month before. At this time you can start to plan your ceremony with the clergy. They can give suggestions about readings and music and can also advise you on the cathedral’s policy relating to photography and video recording. The church requires at least one of you be baptised. Baptism preparation is available where neither are baptised.

Legal Requirements
All official documentation is arranged by the clergy who will celebrate your marriage. You will need to apply to the Office of Births Deaths and Marriages for your Registered Marriage Certificate after your wedding ceremony. You will also need to produce youroriginal birth certificates and photo ID at your first planning meeting so the priest can verify.

 

Music Options for your Wedding Ceremony

Christ Church Cathedral is renowned in Newcastle and Australia for the quality of its music programme and pipe organ. The Cathedral boasts various choirs and  the Christ Church Camerata, Newcastle’s finest string ensemble. While the organist is included in the basic wedding package, the choirs and members of the Camerata are available, at an additional charge, to enhance and enrich the music of your wedding ceremony.

Please note that only musicians engaged by the Cathedral are allowed to perform for your wedding.
* At least 4 weeks notice is required for all musicians. Fees are current although subject to change in the future.

A soprano or baritone soloist is possible subject to availability – $250

Choirs: – choral music is possible subject to the choir’s availability and is not possible during school holidays.

St Nicholas Choir (primary school age) $600

Choral Scholars (high school and tertiary age) $750

Cathedral Choir (adult choir) $1000

Cathedral Choir for large choral works $1800

Members of the string ensembles are drawn from the Cathedral’s resident chamber orchestra,
Christ Church Camerata (www.cccamerata.com.au). Among some of the region’s best musicians, they perform regularly with each other and have an extensive repertoire choice.
